Zhoushan, China, 20 November 2025 – PaxOcean Zhoushan Shipyard today marked a significant milestone with the naming of Hull H1052, PAC LIBRA, the first vessel in Pacific Carriers Limited’s (PCL) new series of 40,000-deadweight-tonne (DWT) multi-purpose vessels.
Developed jointly by PaxOcean and PCL, this next-generation vessel sets a new benchmark in efficiency, versatility and future-readiness for the project-cargo and multipurpose segment. The naming ceremony, held earlier today at PaxOcean Zhoushan, was witnessed by representatives from PCL, the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) and other industry partners. The ceremony was graced by Godmother Madam Kay Kuok, Director of Kuok Group Singapore, whose presence added significance to the occasion.
Mr. Tan Thai Yong, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PaxOcean Group, said:
“PAC LIBRA reflects the strong partnership between PCL and PaxOcean, and showcases PaxOcean’s ability to advance innovations in design and technology to meet a sophisticated owner’s evolving operational and sustainability demands. We are proud to contribute our engineering, design and construction strengths to PCL’s fleet-renewal programme.”
Mr. Hor Weng Yew, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of PCL, added:
“This vessel reflects deliberate thinking, perseverance and strong collaboration. With flexibility at its core, she strengthens our ability to support customers across diverse trades.”
Hull H1052 incorporates a suite of modern features that enhance performance, maximise cargo-handling flexibility and support safer day-to-day operations. Key highlights include heavy-lift cranes for project and oversized cargoes, energy-saving technologies to improve propulsion and fuel efficiency, and an upgraded hydraulic tween-deck system that streamlines cargo arrangements while reducing manual work. The vessel is also completed with ESS-ready and LNG-ready configurations, positioning it for future advancements in energy management and low-carbon operations.
As the first vessel in its class, PAC LIBRA strengthens PCL’s capability to serve cargo requirements ranging from breakbulk and project cargo to dry bulk commodities. The project underscores PaxOcean’s commitment to engineering excellence, innovation and strong collaboration with industry partners. With adaptable solutions and customisable designs, PaxOcean remains well positioned to support the industry’s evolving operational and sustainability landscape.
PaxOcean acknowledges the collective effort behind this achievement, driven by the expertise of PCL, ABS, design and technical partners, and the dedicated teams in Zhoushan who brought this project from concept to this important naming milestone.
