PaxOcean Group (PaxOcean) successfully delivered one GustoMSC’s design GJ-9800C, wind turbine installation vessel (TIV), CP-16001 to Penta–Ocean Construction Co. Ltd. (Penta-Ocean) in Batam, Indonesia on the 8 September 2023.

The TIV has a length of 123 meters, width of 45 meters and a depth of 10 meters, making it the second larger TIV for Penta-Ocean.  Its features include a Huisman heavy lift crane with a boom length of 130 meters and a lifting capacity of 1,600 tonnes with main hook height of 143 meters above deck.

The vessel is built with an accommodation of up to 100 people and is equipped with main equipment such as the advanced continuous jacking system, four closed circular legs measuring 92.5 meters and Kongsberg’s Dynamic Positioning system (DP II).

Executive Vice-Chairman of PaxOcean, Mr. Low Soon Teck highlighted, “PaxOcean is pleased to deliver CP-16001 to Penta-Ocean which will add to the capabilities of its fleet.  The delivery of this vessel is the culmination of the close collaboration of the Penta-Ocean and PaxOcean teams and represents a pivotal milestone in our strong partnership.”

Designed and engineered with leading industry features for safety and sustainability in mind, the TIV is built for the Offshore Renewable Wind Farm, which is a commitment in combatting climate change.  This move will encourage the expansion of Japan's offshore wind power generation and lead the way for the maritime industry in its journey towards net zero by balancing economic realities with environmental risks.

The president, CEO of Penta-Ocean said at the ceremony, “It was a great pleasure to complete an advanced vessel in cooperation with PaxOcean. The vessel CP-16001, the second vessel for Penta-Ocean will start operating this November at the wind farm project in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan.  Thereafter, several large wind farm projects will start in Japan from 2027 onwards. I am confident that the vessel will make a significant contribution to the expansion of offshore wind power in Japan.”

Marc Doorduin, Commercial Director Fixed Wind GustoMSC said, “As we strive to meet the growing global energy demand, we recognize the need to revolutionize energy generation, both technically and economically. Our deep understanding of our clients' offshore operations has led to the development of the GJ-9800C jack-up vessel design. With the successful delivery of the CP-16001, we mark yet another successful collaboration with PaxOcean, and eagerly anticipate partnering with them once again to drive innovation and modernize the offshore industry.”

Distinctive Features of the CP-16001

  • By jacking up the hull above seawater, the vessel ensures safe, efficient and highly precise crane operation even in the sea areas with severe meteorological and oceanographic conditions. Operational in deep waters (up to 50m).
  • The fully revolving crane with a 1,600t lifting capacity enables installation of 15MW class wind turbines and various foundations including monopiles, jackets, etc.
  • Leveraging on the large deck space and sufficient jack-up capacity, the SEP can carry multiple 15 MW class wind turbines for efficient installation works.
  • The equipped Dynamic Positioning System (DPS) keeps the hull position with high precision, and reduces positioning time required during jacking up of TIV.
